Men's Soccer Drops Heartbreaker in Overtime

CARLINVILLE, Ill. - Fresh off its 1-0 win on Saturday against MacMurray College, the Rockford University men's soccer team concluded its 2-day road trip with a match against the Blackburn College Beavers. It was a tight match the entire way that featured two ties and two changes. Unfortunately, the Regents were on the wrong end of the final lead change as Rockford fell to 0-2-1 in overtime matches following the 3-2 defeat.

After trailing 1-0 at halftime, Rockford scored the first two goals of the second half to grab its only lead of the match. Junior Adam Seiter (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) got his team on the board in the 58th minute with his third goal of the season courtesy of a nice pass from Jeffrey Green (Midlothian, Ill./Bremen) to knot the match at 1-1. It would not stay tied for long though as less than 15 minutes later Rockford took its first lead of the day when freshman Erik Manriquez (Rockford, Ill./Thomas Jefferson) found the back of the net for the second consecutive day. However, Rockford was unable to hold the lead down the stretch as Blackburn tied the match in 85th minute to force overtime. Blackburn would then punch in the game-winning goal in the seventh minute of overtime for the 3-2 win.

Despite the loss, Rockford continues to make excellent strides offensively. The Regents have already scored as many goals (7) in its seven matches this season as it scored during the entire 2013 season. Seiter leads the Regents with 3 goals while Manriquez is not far behind with 2 of his own.

The men's soccer team will look to bounce back and win its second match of the season on Wednesday, September 17th at home against Ripon College. The match is set to begin at 4 PM in Sam Greeley Field.
