ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's soccer team returned home on Wednesday afternoon after being on the road for nearly three weeks to host the Ripon College Red Hawks. The Regents and Red Hawks both entered today's match with identical 1-4-1 records; however, it was Ripon who left with the 3-0 win.
The match remained scoreless for much of the first half until Ripon broke through late. The Red Hawks took the 1-0 lead with the match's first goal in the 31st minute. Just when it appeared as though it would be a one-goal difference entering halftime, Ripon added made it 2-0 with a goal in the 43rd minute. The Regents came out of halftime hoping to turn things around in the final 45 minutes, but it was Ripon who essentially put the game away with an early goal giving the Red Hawks the 3-0 victory.
Despite the loss Rockford had multiple scoring opportunities. The Regents and Red Hawks were nearly even in shots on goal with six and seven respectively. Tham Mana (Rockford, Ill./Jefferson) led Rockford with 3 shots, all of which were on goal. Junior Adam Seiter (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) also played well recording 2 shots with 1 on goal while sophomore Javier Acosta (Rockford, Ill./Jefferson) and freshman Miguel Cortez (Marengo, Ill./Marengo) each tallied a shot on goal.
The men's soccer team will open NACC play on Saturday, September 20th at Lakeland College. The match between the Muskies and Regents has a scheduled start time of 1:00 PM.
