ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University volleyball continued its five-game stretch of home conference games. The Concordia University of Chicago Cougars visited the Seaver Center Tuesday night for a hard fought match. The first three sets were all decided by two points with the first and third games going past the 25 points needed for a set win. The match would go four sets with the final set being decided by four points.
Rockford got off to a good start by winning the first set 26-24. The Cougars then tied it up by taking the second set 25-23. A back-and-forth third set would fall in favor of Concordia Chicago at 29-27. The Regents needed a win in the fourth set to keep the match alive but fell 25-21 to give the Cougars the 3-1 match win.
Katelyn Hasken (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) 12 kills led the way for Rockford. Kayla Kurz (Franklin Grove, Ill./Ashton-Franklin Center) had ten kills on 20 attempts and led the match with a .350 kill percentage. Ashley Simmons (Naperville, Ill./North) was close behind with nine kills of her own and she also contributed with 16 digs.
Taylor Rossi (Ingleside, Ill./Grant Community) had another solid game setting as she posted 35 assists and 12 digs. Freshman Peyton Achs (Erie, Ill./Eastland) also had another solid game adding in seven kills and only one attack error in 20 attack attempts. Erin Pederson (Oregon, Ill./Oregon) rounded things out with five kills, two assists, 17 digs, and four block assists.
Rockford added to its conference leading block totals with 12 block assists and two block solos. Achs and Simmons accounted for the block solos and Achs also added in four block assists.
The Regents return to the court this Friday for a 7:00 p.m. start against Aurora.
