ARDIN HILLS, Minn. - The Rockford University men's soccer team opened the road portion of its schedule on Saturday when the Regents traveled to Bethel University. Following a pair of overtime matches at home to start the season, Rockford hoped to notch its first win of the season on the road this weekend. However it was not meant to be as the Regents fell by a 4-0 final.
The Royals scored a goal early in the first half and then added another just prior to halftime to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission. Bethel essentially put the match out of reach for Rockford when the Royals scored their third goal of the match less than 10 minutes into the second half. The Royals added one final goal in the final 10 minutes of the match for the 4-0 win.
Offensively it was freshman Erik Manriquez (Rockford, Ill./Thomas Jefferson) who led the way for Rockford. Manriquez recorded both of the Regents' shots including one shot on goal.
Defensively freshman Kyle Adams (St. Louis, Mo./Timberland) once again played well in goal. Adams faced 18 shots and made a season-high 14 saves. He now leads the NACC with 24 saves so far this season.
The men's soccer team returns to the action on Sunday, September 7th at noon on the road against Carleton.
