LISLE, Ill. - The men's basketball team dropped its fourth game in a row Tuesday night 78-58 on the road to the Benedictine University Eagles. In a game the Regents never led, Rockford was able to keep the game close for much of the first half before the Eagles eventually pulled away. Down just 6 points at the 5:52 mark, Rockford went cold from the field as the Eagles used a 12-2 run over the next 3 minutes to push its lead into double-figures. The Eagles maintained that led for the remainder of the first half taking a 41-26 advantage into the intermission. The second half did not get any better for Rockford as the Regents were unable to cut into the deficit and ultimately fell on the road to Benedictine.
Sophomore Trae Blumhorst (Mendota, Ill.) played extremely well in the loss. Blumhorst led all scorers pouring in a season-high 20 points on an impressive 8-of-12 shooting. The sophomore rounded out his evening with 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
Fellow sophomore Zach Wallace (Rockford, Ill.) and junior John O'Bryan (Richmond, Ky.) were the other two Regents to crack double-digits in scoring. Wallace nearly recorded his fourth double-double of the season scoring 10 points while grabbing 9 rebounds and blocking a season-high 5 shots. O'Bryan added 10 points off the bench connecting a pair of three-point baskets.
The men's basketball team returns to the court on Saturday, January 17 at home against Concordia University Wisconsin. Tip-off is set for 4:15 p.m. in the Seaver Center.
