Regents Drop Tough Road Contest

MADISON, Wis. - The Regents women's basketball team fell 71-62 Wednesday night against the Edgewood College Eagles. Despite what the final score may indicate, it was a very close game for most of the evening with both teams seemingly in control at various points.

The first half of the game was hotly contested as the Regents and Eagles traded baskets early on. Rockford's Amanda Davis (Mundelein, Ill.) opened the game knocking down back-to-back jumpers for the Regents to tie it at 4-4. Diamond Williams (Carpentersville, Ill.) then tied the game at 7-7 after collecting an offensive rebound and connecting on a three-point play. However, over the next 2 minutes the Eagles went on a 7-0 to grab control of the game. Edgewood would extend its lead to as many as 10 points, but the Regents came storming in the closing minutes of the first half. Rockford went on a 6-0 run holding Edgewood scoreless over the final 3:52 seconds of the half to pull back within 2 points at halftime.

Rockford continued to build upon its momentum in the second half as the Regents kept the pressure on the Eagles. Senior Callie Rezin (Rockford, Ill.) gave Rockford its first lead of the evening when she drained a jumper at the 16:08 mark to put her team in front 37-35. The Regents pushed their lead up to as many as 6 points in the second half as they looked to secure their second straight Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference win. However with Rockford clinging to a 2-point lead at the 4:09 mark, the Eagles went on a 14-0 run to seize control of the game and seal the victory.

Amanda Davis led all scorers on Wednesday with 19 points. Davis has been on fire as of late scoring at least 17 points in four of the last six games including a pair of 20-point performances. In addition to her scoring, she also added 6 rebounds, had 3 steals and 1 assist.

Diamond Williams tallied her second straight double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Williams rounded out her evening with 2 steals, 1 block and 1 assist.

The women's basketball team returns to the court at home on Saturday against Concordia University Wisconsin. Tip-off is at 2:00 p.m. in the Seaver Center.
