FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The Rockford University men's soccer team began its two-day road trip on Saturday with a match against the Marian University Sabres. The Regents have been playing well as of late despite their offensive struggles. Unfortunately those struggles would continue on Saturday, as Rockford was shut out for the fourth time in its last five matches falling 3-0 to the Sabres.
Just like in its previous match, Rockford played very well for nearly the entire day. Goalkeeper Anthony Beck (Fishers, Ind.) and rest of the Regent defense held the Sabres scoreless through the first 73 minutes of the match. Marian broke the scoreless tie in the 74th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Sabres then tacked on two more goals over the next 14 minutes to seal the win.
Freshman Brandon Oeltjenbruns (Arvada, Colo.) took one of Rockford's two shots in the match including the Regents' only shot on goal.
Goalkeeper Anthony Beck continues to lead the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference in saves as he added 6 more to bring his season total to 75.
The RU men's soccer team will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, October 11 at Ripon College. The match has a scheduled start time of 11 a.m.
