ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University men's soccer team returned to action Saturday to take on Concordia University Chicago on senior day at Sam Greeley Field. The Regents celebrated senior day in a big way winning their first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference contest since 2009 and their first win over a current NACC member since the conference began in 2006. Rockford defeated Concordia by a final of 2-0.
The game was locked at 0 throughout most of the first half until the 40th minute Erik Manriquez (Rockford, Ill.) broke away on a beautiful lead pass from Javier Acosta (Rockford, Ill.) and put it in the back of the net to give the Regents a lead they would never surrender. The Regents added some insurance in the second half in the 55th minute when Anders-James Wermuth (Spring Green, Wis.) broke free off a lead pass from Manriquez that snuck past the keeper to give Rockford a 2-0 lead, and ultimately the game would conclude at the same score.
Offensively Rockford was led by Manriquez with 1 goal on 4 shots and 1 assist. Wermuth recorded 1 goal on 1 shot as well. Defensively Anthony Beck (Fishers, Ind.) recorded his second shutout of the season with 4 saves on 4 attempts the Regents.
The Rockford University men's soccer team returns to action Wednesday, October 21 against Benedictine University in Lisle, Ill. with a scheduled start time of 7 p.m.
