ROCKFORD, Ill.-The Rockford University women's soccer team returned to action Wednesday to take on Mount Mary University at Sam Greeley Field. The Regents raced out to an early lead and never looked back winning by a final of 9-0. With the win, Rockford recorded their third shutout on the season.
Rockford got out in front early, scoring 30 seconds into the match when Mackenzi Hesselbart(Elkhart, Ind.) fired a shot into the back of the net off an assist from Giovana Ortega(Rockford, Ill.). Rockford continued the scoring onslaught as Ortega poured in three goals before the 20 minute mark eclipsed in the first half, with all three assisted by Hesselbart. Hesselbart added another goal in the 31st minute off an assist from Melissa Macias (Posen, Ill.). Rockford added their last goal of the first half when Jessica Bergmann (Kenosha, Wis.) fired a shot into the back of the net off an assist from Ali Moore (Mascoutah, Ill.).The Regents led at the half 6-0. Again Rockford jumped out early in the second half when Bergmann received a pass from Ortega and drilled it past the keeper in the 47th minute. Emma Reidner (Princeton, Ill.) got in on the scoring frenzy with her first goal of the season in the 79th minute. Finally, Rebecca Krueger (Kiel, Wis.) finalized the scoring for the Regents with a goal in the 85th minute for her first goal of the season and of her collegiate career.
Gris Mendoza (Rockford, Ill.) recorded her third shutout of the season to lead the Regents. She tallied two saves on the match.
Ortega recorded 3 goals and 2 assists and Hesselbart added 2 goals and 3 assists to lead Rockford.
The Rockford University women's soccer team returns to action Saturday, October 24th against Alverno College with a scheduled start time of 2 p.m.
