ROCKFORD, Ill.-The Rockford University women's soccer team returned to action Saturday to take on Stephens College. Stephens scored a goal late in the second half to defeat the Regents by a final of 1-0.
Rockford and Stephens were locked in a tie throughout the game. Stephens was the first to break the ice and score in the 89th minute of the game. Rockford saw their best scoring opportunity come when Fernanda Chavez (Belvidere, Ill.)went on a breakaway but was denied by an impressive save by Stephens. Rockford would not threat to score anymore and ultimately lost 1-0.
Gris Mendoza (Rockford, Ill.) was outstanding in the goal for the Regents with 12 saves on 13 shots on goal from the Stars.
The Rockford University women's soccer team returns to action Sunday, October 4 against the Lakeland College Muskies at Sam Greeley Field with a scheduled start time of 3:30 p.m.
