ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University women's basketball team opened their season against the Augustana College Vikings at the Seaver Center on Tuesday night. Rockford started the game slowly and never regained their footing resulting in a 79-48 loss.
Offensively, Casey Pettit (Rockford, Ill.) got the Regents going with five points in the first 11 minutes, before getting into foul trouble for the final part of the first half. The Regents attempted to claw their way back in the second quarter after falling behind at the end of the first quarter 21-9. Amanda Davis (Mundelein, Ill.)attempted to keep the Regents in the game with five of her seven points coming in the second quarter. However, the Regents could not close out the second quarter as the Vikings pulled away by a 40-17 margin.
In the third quarter Rockford came out firing with an 11-3 run to trim the Augustana lead to 43-28. However, the Regents could not cut the deficit further as they fell behind 58-32 at the end of the third quarter. In the final quarter of the game the Regents could not put together a rally as they fell by the final of 79-48.
The Regents were led by Davis with 12 points to go along with 5 rebounds in a game-high 30 minutes. Pettit recorded 8 point to go along with 4 rebounds for Rockford. Talayah Gordon Scott (Rockford, Ill.) also played well for the Regents recording 7 points and 6 rebounds.
The Rockford University women's basketball team will return to action Saturday, November 21 against Beloit College with a scheduled start time of 2 p.m.
