ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team fell 84-49 on the road to the Beloit College Buccaneers. Not much went right for the Regents this afternoon as they were outplayed by the Buccaneers in nearly every facet of the game. Two of the most telling statistics were turnovers and points in the paint. Rockford turned the ball over 39 times leading to 39 Buccaneer points and were outscored 44-14 in the paint. However, one positive the Regents can point to was their much-improved free throw shooting. Rockford shot 81.3% from the free throw line connecting on 13-of-16 attempts.
The game was never really in doubt as the Buccaneers opened on a 10-0 run and eventually extended their lead to 34-13 at the end of the first quarter. Beloit continued to build on its lead in the second quarter as the Buccaneers entered halftime with a 54-23 advantage. However despite the large deficit, Rockford did play much better in the third and fourth quarters. The Regents hung with the Buccaneers over the final 20 minutes as Beloit was only able to add four additional points to its halftime lead en route to an 84-49 win.
Mallorie Getzelman (Bryon, Ill.) was the leading scorer for Rockford on Saturday. Getzelman tallied 14 points including making both of Rockford's three-point baskets. She rounded out her afternoon with 3 rebounds and 1 steal.
Casey Pettit (Rockford, Ill.) and Talayah Gordon Scott (Rockford, Ill.) also did a nice job contributing. Pettit scored 6 points, had 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 blocked shot. Gordon Scott scored 7 points and grabbed 2 rebounds off the bench.
The RU women's basketball team returns home on Tuesday, November 24 against Mount Mary University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in the Seaver Center.
