ROCKFORD, Ill. - Following a tough loss on Friday, the RU men's soccer team entered Saturday's match against the Eureka College Red Devils hoping to bounce back and pick up its second win of the week.
The match got off to a great start for Rockford as the Regents struck first. In the 15th minute sophomore Tham Mana (Rockford, Ill.) scored his third goal of the season off a nice pass from Erik Manriquez (Rockford, Ill.) giving the Regents a quick 1-0 lead. Rockford held its 1-0 advantage until the closing minutes of the first half when Eureka connected on a header to send the game into halftime tied at 1-1.
The match did not remained tied for long as Eureka scored less than two minutes into the second half taking its first lead of the match. The score remained 2-1 until the 70th minute when Rockford's leading scorer Erik Manriquez once again came through in clutch with his fourth goal of the season to tie the match at 2-2. Unfortunately, Eureka closed the second half with a late goal just as it did in the first half for the 3-2 win.
The men's soccer team returns to the field next Saturday, September 19 at Lakeland College. The match has a scheduled start time of 1:00 p.m.
