SHEBOYGAN, Wis.- The Rockford University men's soccer team returned to action Saturday to take on Lakeland College in their first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup. The Regents scored first but could not hold the lead as Lakeland scored the next four goals to ultimately win 5-2.
Rockford struck first in the 34th minute as Bailey Beard (Cherry Valley, Ill.) found the back of the net off of a free kick from John Deleon (Des Plaines, Ill.) and a pass from Mike Mottonen (South Barrington, Ill.). The Regents did not hold the lead for long as Lakeland struck back with four unanswered goals to make the lead 4-1. Rockford was not done as Mottonen found the back of the net on an assist from Brandon Oeltjenbruns (Arvada, Colo.). Unfortunately Rockford could not muster any more offense as they ultimately lost 5-2.
Mottonen led the offensive charge for the Regents tallying 3 shots with 2 coming on goal along with 1 goal and 1 assist.
The Rockford University men's soccer team returns to action Saturday, September 26 at Wisconsin Lutheran College in their second NACC matchup of the year.
