ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University volleyball team returned to action against the Dominican University Stars to open the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play. The opening set was a struggle for the Regents while the final two sets saw the Regents get out to a lead in both but ultimately fall to the Stars in straight sets 3-0.
In the first set the Regents struggled to get anything going in a 25-9 losing effort. However, the final two sets the Regents jumped to early leads. Rockford led 12-9 in the second set before eventually losing 25-15. The third set was an even closer battle as the Regents fell 25-18. Leading the offensive attack for Rockford was Kayla Van Buren (Franklin Grove, Ill.) with 7 kills on 15 attempts. She also tallied 3 digs and 1 block assist. Taylor Rossi (Ingleside, Ill.) had 17 assists to go along with 7 digs and 2 block assists.
Marissa Plock (German Valley, Ill.) and Madison Lanquist (Rockford, Ill.) both played well for the Regents. Plock recorded 4 kills on 7 attempts while Lanquist had 8 digs to lead the Regents defensively.
The Rockford University volleyball team will return to action Thursday, September 17 at home against Alverno College. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the Seaver Center.
