Regents Start Slow but Fight Back to Claim First NACC Victory

ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University volleyball team returned to action Thursday to take on Alverno College in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup. Both teams entered the game with one loss in the conference and were looking to gain their first victory. Alverno started out on top winning the first two sets 25-22. Rockford regained their form in the final three sets to gain their first victory within the conference.

Rockford started out slow by losing the first two sets 25-22. The Regents quickly turned it around in the third set to win by a score 25-17 and in the fourth set to win 25-20. In the deciding set Rockford fell behind early before storming back to win 16-14. Leading the Rockford offensive charge were Taylor Rossi (Ingleside, Ill.) and Kayla Van Buren (Franklin Grove, Ill.). Rossi recorded a triple double with 10 kills on 18 attempts, 27 assists and 13 digs. She recorded three of her ten kills in the final set to lead the Regents. Van Buren recorded another double double on the year with 12 kills on 33 attempts to go along with 19 digs.

"This was a big step forward for our team" Coach Curt Sivertsen stated. "I am really happy with the character our girls showed to fight back to gain the victory. We need to build off this win going through the conference season."

Alex Storey (Dexter, Mich.) and Katie Fowler (Stillman Valley, Ill.) both played well for the Regents. Storey recorded 9 kills and 15 digs while Fowler tallied 7 kills and 12 digs respectively.

The Rockford University volleyball team will return to action Saturday, September 19 against Illinois College in the Illinois College Tournament in Jacksonville, Ill.
