JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - The Rockford University volleyball team played a pair of tough matches on Saturday at the Illinois College Tournament. The Regents opened up against Monmouth College before finishing the day against Missouri Valley. Unfortunately, Rockford was swept 3-0 by both the Fighting Scots and the Vikings.
Despite falling in straight sets to the Fighting Scots, the Regents put up a fight late in the match. Rockford dropped the first two sets 25-16 and 25-10 before losing a hard-fought third set 25-23. Freshman Alex Storey (Dexter, Mich.) led Rockford with a team-high 6 kills and 7 digs. Junior setter Taylor Rossi (Ingleside, Ill.) tallied her seventh double-double of the season with 17 assists and 12 digs. Amanda Korte (Davis, Ill.) had perhaps her best match of the season at the net recording 2 solo blocks, 2 block assists and 2 kills.
The second match of the day came against a very talented NAIA school in Missouri Valley College. The Vikings were just too much for the Regents winning the match 25-9, 25-12, 25-10. Offensively it was once again Alex Storey who led the charge for Rockford with 5 kills. Taylor Rossi finished with a team-high 12 assists and 7 digs while Madison Lanquist (Rockford, Ill.) recorded a team-high 11 digs.
The RU volleyball team returns to the court on Tuesday, September 22 at Maranatha Baptist University. The match has a scheduled start time of 7:00 p.m.
