WATERTOWN, Wis. - The Rockford University volleyball team hit the road Tuesday night to take on former NACC foe Maranatha Baptist University. The match went three sets with the Sabercats coming out on top 3-0 over the Regents.
Rockford played its best volleyball in the opening set of the match when it tallied eight of its fourteen kills. Although the Regents never led in the set, it was very close nearly the entire way. However with Rockford trailing 21-18, Maranatha was able to score the final four points to win the opening set 25-18.
Maranatha then used large runs in both the second and third sets for 25-6 and 25-17 wins respectively. In the second set the Sabrecats opened on a 12-1 run to take control, while in the third set Maranatha used an 8-0 run midway through to seal the win.
Offensively the Regents were led by freshman Alex Storey (Dexter, Mich.) and junior Taylor Rossi (Ingleside, Ill.). Storey had a team-high 6 kills while Rossi led Rockford with 12 assists.
Defensively Madison Lanquist (Rockford, Ill.) tallied a team-high 10 digs and Marissa Plock (German Valley, Ill.) recorded a solo block and a block assist.
The Rockford University volleyball team returns to the court on Wednesday, September 23 at Concordia University Chicago. The match has a scheduled start time of 7:00 PM.
