ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University women's soccer team returned to action on Sunday to face Iowa Wesleyan University at Sam Greeley Field. The Regents score twice in the second half to pull away from the Tigers and ultimately win 2-0.
The Tigers and Regents were locked in a dog fight throughout much of the game until the 54th minute Mackenzi Hesselbart (Elkhart, Ind.) fired a shot into the back of the net from 10 yards out on an assist from Giovana Ortega (Rockford, Ill.). The Regents remained aggressive as they scored in the 66th minute on a shot from Ortega from 5 yards out off an assist from Fernanda Chavez (Belvidere, Ill.). Rockford fought off the Tigers' attack in the final minutes to win by a final of 2-0. The win was the second on the season for the Regents as well as their second shutout.
Gris Mendoza (Rockford, Ill.) pitched her second shutout of the season and recorded her second win as well.
