ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Regents men's soccer team notched its first victory of the year on Friday with a 4-1 win over the Iowa Wesleyan University Tigers. Rockford was in control for much of the match as the Regents outshot the Tigers 26-7 including a 15-3 edge in shots on goal. The Regents capitalized on the huge shot advantage to take 3-1 lead entering the half before ultimately cruising to the 4-1 victory. 

Following a slow start to the match, Rockford found the back of the net three times over just a ten minute span. The Regents broke the scoreless tie in the 26th minute when sophomore Tham Mana (Rockford, Ill.) scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Jonathan Hernandez (Chicago, Ill.). Unfortunately less than four minutes later, the Tigers answered back with a goal of their own to tie the match. The Regents would quickly respond scoring two goals over the next six minutes and take a commanding 3-1 lead into half. Rockford's second goal of the afternoon came off a penalty kick when Miguel Cortez (Marengo, Ill.) drilled the back as the Regents retook the lead. Sophomore Erik Manriquez (Rockford, Ill.) then capped off the first half with his second goal of the season as Jonathan Hernandez tallied his second assist of the match. 

Rockford would essentially put the game away less than two minutes into the second half when the Regents scored their fourth goal of the match. It was once again Tham Mana who struck for the Regents scoring his second goal of the day and sealing the 4-1 win.

The RU men's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, September 5 at Simpson College. The match has a scheduled start time of 12 p.m.
