ROCKFORD, Ill.-The Rockford University women's basketball team returned to action Wednesday to take on Alverno College at the Seaver Center. The Regents were looking for their first win in Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play this season. Rockford jumped out to an early lead but was unable to hold it, ultimately falling by the final of 83-64.
Rockford won the opening tip and immediately outplayed Alverno in the opening quarter. The Regents quickly jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back finishing the quarter with a 25-14 lead. In the second quarter Rockford could not muster any offense only scoring seven points. Due to the offensive woes they could not hold on to their large lead and ultimately fell behind 34-32 at the half. In the third quarter it continued to be a similar story as the second quarter as the Regents could not stop the Inferno offense, trailing 59-43 heading into the final quarter. Rockford used stifling defense to use a 12-3 run to bring the score to within nine points with just over four minutes remaining. Unfortunately they were unable to close the gap any further falling 83-64.
Leading Rockford offensively was Mallorie Getzelman (Byron, Ill.) adding a team-high 14 points and 3 assists. Casey Pettit (Rockford, Ill.) notched 13 points with a team-high 5 assists and 5 rebounds.
