ROCKFORD, Ill.- The Rockford University women's basketball team returned to action Wednesday to take Concordia University Chicago in the Seaver Center. Rockford was looking to secure their first Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference victory. However, the Cougars jumped out to an early lead and never surrendered it ultimately prevailing by the final of 99-75.
The Regents fell behind in the first quarter due to the hot shooting display of the Cougars eclipsing 55% from the field as compared to 31.6% from Rockford leading to a 25-17 deficit at the end of the quarter. Rockford was powered by Mallorie Getzelman (Byron, Ill.) in the second quarter scoring 12 of her 27 points to keep the Regents in the game. At the half Rockford trailed 50-38. In the third quarter the Cougars pressure became too much for the Regents forcing 14 turnovers and ultimately leading 87-53 at the end of the quarter. Rockford attempted to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter forcing seven turnovers and shooting 47.1% from the field. Unfortunately they could not make up the deficit falling by the final of 99-75.
The Regents were led by Getzelman with her first career double-double adding a game-high 27 points and 10 rebounds.
