Women's Basketball Drops Fourth Straight

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team fell 82-64 on the road Wednesday night to the Concordia University Chicago Cougars. Although the Regents never led, Rockford was within striking distance for much of the evening. In each of the first three quarters, Rockford had the Concordia Chicago led down to single digits and at one point late in the second quarter the Regents were within two points. Unfortunately the Regents were hurt the entire game by turnovers as they gave the ball away 32 times compared to just 19 for CUC. Despite shooting the ball better than the Cougars (43.3% to 40.7%) Rockford was outrebounded by 10 helping led to 21 extra shot attempts for Concordia Chicago.

The ladies again started a game slow and were forced to play from behind for the entire evening. After the two teams traded baskets in the opening minutes of the game, Concordia Chicago went on a 10-2 run to grab an early 16-6 lead. The Cougars would push their lead to 12 points before Rockford scored the final 4 points of the quarter to get back within 8 points.

The Cougars began the second quarter by extending their lead back to double-digits before the Regents put a run of their own together. Trailing 26-14 less than a minute into the quarter, Rockford caught fire and went on a 16-6 run to pull back within a single basket. Amanda Davis (Mundelein, Ill.) led the charge with 7 points while Taylor Davis (Mundelein, Ill.) and Cherith Roweton (Weaubleau, Mo.) added 4 and 3 points respectively. Unfortunately the Cougars answered right back with a 10-2 run to close the half and push their lead back to ten points.

The third and fourth quarters did not go as well as the Regents were unable to get back within striking distance. Concordia Chicago scored the first 8 points of the third quarter to push its lead all the way up to 18 points. An Amanda Davis jumper with 2:17 remaining in the quarter pulled Rockford back within 8 points, but unfortunately the ladies were unable to get any closer. The Cougars again closed the quarter strong and opened the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run en route to an 82-64 win.

Senior Amanda Davis continued her hot streak as of late scoring in double-figures for the fifth straight game and the seventh time in the last eight games. Davis was the team's leading scorer with 19 points off the bench connecting on 8-of-16 shot attempts. She also added 4 rebounds and 2 assists to her totals.

Freshman Cherith Roweton was the other Regent to crack double-figures on Wednesday night. Roweton tallied 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting. She rounded out her stat line with 4 rebounds and 1 assist.

Talayah Gordon Scott (Rockford, Ill.) and Taylor Davis each chipped in 8 points with Gordon Scott also grabbing 8 rebounds.

The RU women's basketball team returns to the court on Saturday, January 9 at home against Edgewood College. Tip-off is set for 4:15 p.m. in the Seaver Center.
