ROCKFORD, Ill.-The Rockford University women's basketball team returned to action Saturday, January 9 against Edgewood College in the Seaver Center. Rockford could not overcome a 23-point deficit to Edgewood, ultimately falling 66-54.
Rockford jumped out to an early five point lead in the first quarter before ultimately finishing the quarter tied 18-18. The Regents were led by a strong start from Mallorie Getzelman (Byron, Ill.) and Amanda Davis(Mundelein, Ill.) who each scored six points in the first quarter. Rockford committed seven turnovers in the second quarter which led to a 39-25 deficit at the half. The Regents could not muster any offense shooting 27.8% from the field in the third quarter. The cold shooting led to a 20-point deficit heading into the final quarter of the game. However, the Regents mounted a comeback in the fourth quarter. Shooting 50% from the floor and causing 11 turnovers on the Eagles were the catalyst to their comeback. Unfortunately it was too little too late for Rockford as they fell by the final of 66-54.
Davis led the Regents with 13 points. Talayah Gordon Scott (Rockford, Ill.) scored 11 points, as the only other Regent in double-figures. Tajanae Key (Glendale Heights, Ill.) recorded 4 points, a team-high 5 rebounds and 5 steals.
The Rockford University women's basketball team will return to action Wednesday, January 13 to take on Alverno College at the Seaver Center with a scheduled start time of 7 p.m.
