ROCKFORD, Ill.-The Rockford University women's basketball team returned to action Tuesday to take on Aurora University at the Seaver Center. The Regents were looking to build off their win on Saturday and to finish the year strong. Unfortunately, Rockford was unable to slow down Aurora offensive attack falling by the final 77-54.
In the first quarter the Regents fell behind immediately and struggled to find their way back into the game ultimately trailing 23-11. The second quarter was the same story as Rockford could not stop the Aurora offense leading to a 41-20 deficit at the half. Amanda Davis (Mundelein, Ill.) led the offense with 7 points.
Again the third quarter was ruled by the Spartans as they expanded their lead over the Regents by the score of 61-33 at the end of the period. Rockford came out and pressured Aurora in the fourth quarter which led to more defensive stops in the final quarter. The Regents shot the ball exceptionally well at 53.3% from the field in the quarter. With the increased pressure and high shooting performance Rockford ultimately outscored Aurora 21-16 in the quarter and narrowed the deficit to 77-54 to end the game. Overall, the Regents shot 44% compared to the Spartans 43.3%. However, Aurora connected on 11 three-point attempts compared to Rockford's 2.
Leading Rockford offensively was Davis with a team-high 16 points. Taylor Davis (Mundelein, Ill.) added 15 points. Mallorie Getzelman (Byron, Ill.) recorded 12 points and 5 rebounds.
The Rockford University women's basketball team will conclude their season Saturday, February 20 against MSOE in Milwaukee, Wis. with a scheduled start time of 4:15 p.m.
