PLYMOUTH, Wis. - The Rockford University women's soccer team hit the road on Sunday to take on the Lakeland University Muskies. Rockford hoped to keep its undefeated season alive as the Regents were coming off an impressive 10-0 win over Iowa Wesleyan just a few days earlier. However, it was the Muskies who came out clicking on all cylinders as they defeated the Regents by a 6-2 final score.

The match got off to a rocky start for the Regents as the Muskies scored twice in the opening ten minutes to take a 2-0 lead. However, Rockford continued to fight, and midway through the half cut the Muskies lead down to a single goal. Sophomore Lexie Collins (Earlville, Ill.) continued her hot streak as she found the back of the net for the fourth time this season. Junior Giovana Ortega (Rockford, Ill.) was credited with the assist on the goal, which was her first of the year. Unfortunately Lakeland answered right back with a pair of goals to take a 4-1 lead heading into halftime.

The second half started similar to the first as the Muskies scored the first two goals and extended their lead to 6-1. However, the Regents continued to play hard and were rewarded late in the match with their second goal of the afternoon. In the 89th minute it was senior Melissa Macias (Posen, Ill.) who scored her second goal of the season off an assist from Rebecca Krueger (Kiel, Wis.). Unfortunately it was not enough though as Lakeland went on to win the match 6-2.

The RU women's soccer team returns to the field on Monday, September 5 against Bethany Lutheran College. The match has a scheduled start time of 5:00 PM at Sam Greeley Field.
