Regents Fall to Defending NACC Champion Spartans

AURORA, Ill. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team (6-16, 0-8 NACC) fell in straight sets on Wednesday evening at Aurora University (15-8, 6-1 NACC). The Spartans were in control for most of the evening, winning the match by final scores of 25-14, 25-7 and 25-15.

  • Rockford was able to hang tough with Aurora for a large portion of the opening set. After Aurora scored the first two points of the match, the Regents responded with two straight points, capped off by a Paige Carpenter kill.
  • The Spartans built their lead up to as many as seven points, before Rockford used a 3-0 run to pull back within four at 14-10. Della Crain and Jessica Witkowski led the charge with a kill and a service ace.
  • Aurora's lead hovered around five points, until the Spartans closed on a 7-0 run, to take the opening set 25-14.
  • The second set was again close in the opening moments, as Rockford trailed by just three points one-third of the way through. Paige Carpenter and Della Crain each tallied a kill during that span.
  • Unfortunately, Aurora scored the next 11 points to seize control of the set at 19-5. The Spartans would go on to win the second set and take a 2-0 advantage.
  • The third set followed a similar pattern, as Rockford played very well early on.
  • Della Crain smashed back-to-back kills in the opening moments to give her team a quick 3-2 lead.
  • The set went back-and-forth over the next few minutes, with the two schools tied at 8-8.
  • However, that's when things began to swing in Aurora's favor. The Spartans promptly went on a 7-0 run to grab a 15-8 lead.
  • The Regents would not go away without a fight though, answering with three straight points of their own. Amelia Rehberg led the offensive attack with a pair of service aces.
  • Unfortunately, Aurora closed the night on a 10-4 run to take the third set and the match.

The RU women's volleyball team returns to the court on Friday, October 19 at home against Lakeland University. The match has a scheduled start time of 7 PM in the Seaver Center.
