GALESBURG, Ill. - The Rockford University men's basketball team (4-4) fell 84-66 on the road Wednesday night to the Knox College Prairie Fire (3-4). It was a difficult evening for the Regents, as Knox controlled pretty much every facet of the game. The Prairie Fire outshot the Regents 53.2% to 38.6, including a 42.1% to 35.0% edge from three-point range. Knox also had a sizeable advantage on the boards, outrebounding Rockford 46-30.
- The Regents got off to a slow start, falling behind 11-4 just over four minutes into the game.
- However, Rockford seemed to find its groove over the next two minutes. The Regents used a 10-0 run to take their first lead of the game. Kivontay Shaw led the RU charge with six points, including draining back-to-back threes.
- Rockford's lead hovered around three points until midway through the half, when the Prairie Fire scored eight straight points to retake the lead at 25-20.
- Knox would close the half on a 21-9 run, to take a commanding 46-29 advantage into the break.
- Despite being down by double-digits, the Regents came out strong in the opening moments of the second half. Rockford used a 7-2 run over the first two minutes and seven seconds to pull back within 12 points at 48-36. Three different Regents scored over that span, led by three points from Vincent Eugene.
- Unfortunately, that was as close as Rockford would get for the remainder of the game. Knox would build its lead up to as many as 24 points en route to an 84-66 win.
- Kivontay Shaw finished with a team-high 18 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal. Shaw was on fire all game long, connecting on 6-of-12 shots from the floor, including going 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.
- Vincent Eugene added 13 points, on 5-of-9 shooting, 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 1 steal off the bench.
- Justen Kidd tallied 8 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist.
The RU men's basketball team returns to NACC play on Saturday, December 14 at Edgewood College. Tip-off is set for 2 PM.
