ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (2-19, 2-15 NACC) fell to the Concordia University Chicago Cougars (7-15, 7-10 NACC) on Wednesday by a final score of 79-60. The Regents were able to keep it an eight-point game at the half as they trailed 30-22. Unfortunately, the Cougars would put the game away as they shot 43.7% from the floor compared to just 38.2% for the Regents. CUC used its advantage in the paint (34-to-22) and bench points (27-to-15) to help secure the victory.
- Neither team was able to gain much ground in the opening quarter. It was deadlocked at 10-10 with 1:57 to play in the first.
- The Cougars would hit from three to take a 13-10 led heading into the second quarter.
- Concordia Chicago found some momentum in the second as it took advantage of a 10-0 run.
- CUC pulled in front 29-20 after another three pointer midway through the second quarter.
- It was Emily Cox (Erie, Ill.) who knocked it down from beyond the arc to bring it to within six.
- That would be the closest the Regents would come in the second as the Cougars took a 43-32 lead heading into the half.
- Emily Cox led the way for the Regents at the half with 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting including drilling 3-of-5 from downtown. Nicole Silvers (Byron, Ill.) put together a nice first half as she finished with 12 points on 5-of-9 from the floor including 2-for-3 from deep.
- CUC used its momentum in the first half to begin to run away in the second. The Cougars outscored Rockford 20-12 to take a 63-44 lead into the fourth.
- Concordia Chicago would not relinquish its lead as the Cougars went on to win by a final score of 79-60.
- Two Rockford players ended the night scoring double-digits.
- Nicole Silvers led the way with a team-high 18 points on 7-for-14 shooting including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc and a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.
- Emily Cox finished with a career-high 15 points while knocking down 3 shots from downtown including converting 4-of-6 from the line. Cox also pulled in 4 rebounds and added 2 assists.
- Natasha Marcus (Poplar Grove, Ill.) had a solid night posting 7 points and 7 rebounds while drawing a game-high 11 fouls.
The Rockford University women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, February 9 when it travels to Edgewood. Tip-off is set for 2:00 PM.
