ROCKFORD, Ill, - The Rockford University men's basketball team (8-7, 6-4 NACC) won 90-84 in overtime against Dominican University (8-7, 4-6 NACC). The game was a battle between both teams till the end. With Dominican outshooting the Regents from the field and 3-point range, it came down to Rockford's stellar defense. The Regents outrebounded the Stars 42-31 and forced an incredible 26 turnovers. Rockford took advantage of offensive rebounds scoring 19 second-chance points compared to Dominican's six off of offensive rebounds. Dominican held control for most of the first half, but Rockford was able to go into the second half with a 39-36 lead. Rockford ended up losing the lead in the second half however, Brandon Emerick drained a deep 3-point jumper with four seconds left in the game to send the Regents into overtime at 73-73. It was Rockford's Brandon Emerick who made the difference, scoring eight of the Regents 17 points in overtime to take home the win, 90-84. Brandon Emerick finished with 28 points, one point shy of his season-high while recording eight rebounds, five steals, and four assists. Emerick went 2-3 from 3-point range in overtime. Nathaniel Shead had an outstanding game scoring 22 points with four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Ashton Singleton added 11 points and Jamar Rivera was a force under the basket with 10 rebounds.

• The Regents started slow, down 7-1 after Dominican hit a 3-point basket with 18:38 left in the first half.
• Ashton Singleton added fuel to the Regents when he got fouled while making a 3-pointer and making the free-throw to complete the four-point play. Rockford still trailed the Stars 7-4 with 18:18 left in the first half.
• A series of scores on both sides allowed the Regents to tie it at 11-11 with Nathaniel Shead hitting a jumper.
• The Stars answered with a 3-pointer to regain the lead 14-11.
• Dominican increased its lead to 18-13 with a couple of free-throws with 13:10 left in the half.
• After Vincent Eugene made a layup, Brandon Emerick came through with an and-1 to tie it at 18-18.
• Rockford took the lead 20-18 after Nathaniel Shead hit a quick jumper.
• The Stars took back the lead after going on a 5-0 scoring run, making it 27-20 with 7:18 left to play in the first half.
• After a back and forth battle, the Regents were able to take the lead 32-31 with a layup by P.J. Gray III.
• Dominican stole the lead right back after a 3-point bucket made it 34-32 with 3:00 left in the first half.
• The lead changed three times before Rockford was able to secure the 39-36 lead with a big 3-point basket from Brandon Emerick heading into halftime.
• Rockford came out strong in the second half with a 5-0 scoring run to take a 49-36 lead over the Stars. 
• The Stars put together a 4-1 scoring run hitting two 3-pointers. Dominican still trailed the Regents 51-46 with 13:27 left in the second half.
• Nathaniel Shead hit a 3-point basket to create some space, giving the Regents a 56-48 lead.
• Unfortunately, the Stars came back with a 5-1 scoring run making two 3-point buckets and taking the lead 59-58.
• The Regents took the lead right back going on a 3-0 scoring run to make it 63-59 with 6:52 left in the game.
• Dominican hit three consecutive 3-pointers to regain the lead 68-63 with 5:18 left to play.
• After scoring opportunities by both teams, Brandon Emerick drilled a 3-point basket to trail 72-68 with 1:44 left in the game.
• A free-throw by the Stars made it 73-70, the Regents trailing with 10 seconds left.
• With four seconds left, the Regents kicked the ball out to Brandon Emerick who was deep beyond the 3-point arc. Emerick splashed the deep three to tie the game 73-73, sending the Regents into overtime.
• The Regents jumped out in front with a Nathaniel Shead jumper to put Rockford over Dominican 75-73.
• Brandon Emerick hit two 3-point baskets in a row to increase the Regents lead 81-74 with 2:26 left to play.
• Rockford sustained the lead and went on to win 90-84 in overtime.

• Brandon Emerick finished with a team-leading 28 points. He also had 8 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists.
• Nathaniel Shead tallied 22 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals, and 2 assists.
• Ashton Singleton had 11 points, 3 steals, and 2 rebounds.
• Jamar Rivera had a team-leading 10 rebounds with 6 points.
• Kivontay Shaw came off the bench for 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists.

The RU men's basketball team returns to the court on Tuesday, January 21 at Wisconsin Lutheran College. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
