Jazsmin Blue Notches a Double-Double but Rockford Falls to Lakeland

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (2-10, 0-7 NACC) fell 78-42 to the Lakeland University Muskies (5-7, 5-2 NACC) on Wednesday night. The Muskies were deadly from beyond the arc all game long, draining a school record 19 three-pointers. Lakeland's hot shooting gave the Muskies a 43-22 advantage at the half and eventually led to a Muskie win.

  • Despite what the final score might indicate, the Regents outplayed the Muskies for a good portion of the first quarter.
  • Rockford went head-to-head with Lakeland over the first few minutes, before taking a 7-5 lead on a Neve Yerk made jumper. Following a Muskie triple, Yerk connected on her second straight jumper to put the Regents back in front by a single point. A few possessions later, Linzy Keller drained a three-pointer of her own, to give Rockford its largest lead of the day at 12-9.
  • Unfortunately, it was the Muskies who scored the final 13 points of the period, to take a 22-12 advantage into the second quarter.
  • Rockford was unable to cut the deficit back down to single digits, as the Regents entered the half trailing 43-22.
  • Unfortunately, things did not get any better in the second half. The Regents were never able to significantly cut into the Lakeland lead, as the Muskies went on to win by a final score of 78-42.

  • Jazsmin Blue notched her first double-double in a Regent uniform. Blue finished with a season-high 10 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. She also added 1 assist and 1 block to her totals.
  • Sammi Russell played well off the bench. Russell finished with 8 points and 5 rebounds.
  • Linzy Keller added 7 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.

The RU women's basketball team returns to the court on Saturday, January 11 at Aurora University. Tip-off between the Regents and Spartans is set for 4:15 PM.
