Sammi Russell and Linzy Keller Record Double-Doubles at CUC

RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Regents (3-20, 1-17 NACC) dropped their final road game of the season on Tuesday, 81-53, to the Concordia University Chicago Cougars (8-14, 7-10 NACC). Although Rockford never led in the game, the Regents got a pair of outstanding individual performances from Sammi Russell and Linzy Keller. Russell paced the RU offense with a career-high 24 points and a season-high 10 rebounds for her first career double-double. Keller tallied her second straight and third double-double of the season with 17 points and tied a season-high with 11 rebounds. However, ultimately the difference in the game was CUC's ability to convert turnovers into points. The Cougars scored 32 points off 27 Rockford turnovers, while the Regents scored just 11 points off 16 Concordia turnovers.

  • Concordia Chicago scored ten straight points to begin the night and took a double-digit lead just under 2:30 into the game.
  • Rockford was able to cut the CUC lead back down to six at 16-10, following a pair of buckets from Sammi Russell and Carlye Heitter
  • The Regents would then later close the quarter with a basket by Linzy Keller to make it just a five-point game at 22-17.
  • Sammi Russell was simply outstanding in the period. Russell scored 10 points, including going a perfect 6-of-6 at the free throw line, and grabbed 4 rebounds.
  • The Cougars again got off to a strong start in the second quarter. CUC scored the first six points to push its lead back into double-figures at 28-17.
  • Concordia's lead hovered around 12 points until Annika Rae hit a three in the closing seconds and sent the Cougars into the half with a 42-27 advantage.
  • CUC continued to build upon its momentum early in the third quarter. The Cougars scored the first 12 points of the half to take a commanding 54-27 lead.
  • The Cougars would extend their lead to as many as 31 points en route to an 81-53 win.

  • Sammi Russell had perhaps the best game of her collegiate career. Russell poured in a career and game-high 24 points on 7-of-13 shooting from the floor and went 9-for-10 at the free throw line. She also posted a season-high 10 rebounds to record her first collegiate double-double. Russell rounded out her stat line with a pair of blocks and 1 steal.
  • Linzy Keller tallied her second double-double in as many games. Keller finished with 17 points and tied her season-high with 11 rebounds. She also added 2 assists and 1 steal.

The RU women's basketball team returns home on Saturday, February 15 to face Edgewood College. Tip-off is set for 4:15 PM in the Seaver Center.
