ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's volleyball team (0-12) lost in straight sets to Millikin University (2-13). The Regents struggled to hold a lead but never quit in each set. Rockford showed a lot of toughness, especially in the third set being down 7-0 early and 23-9 late but rallying back for an impressive 9-1 point run to lose the third set a close 25-18. The Regents lost 25-19, 25-16 and 25-18.
- The first set started evenly with both teams trading points, locked at 7-7. Jorge Pando hammered down a nice service ace during this stretch for the Regents.
- A big kill by Jose Padron Garcia put the Regents up 11-10.
- However, Millikin went on a 10-2 scoring run to take the lead 20-13.
- Rockford made a push with a 5-3 scoring run highlighted by kills from Randall Simental and Marcus Pennington to be down 23-18.
- But Millikin closed out the first set 25-19.
- Rockford started off the second set with two massive kills coming from Jose Padron Garcia and Franklin McDaniel for the Regents to lead 2-1.
- Millikin took the lead 8-5 with a 7-3 scoring run. During this stint, Jose Padron Garcia was able to keep the Regents in it with two big kills.
- The Regents went on a 4-2 scoring run to trail a close 10-9 with kills coming from Marcus Pennington and Randall Simental.
- Unfortunately, Millikin was able to take advantage of a 9-2 scoring run to increase its lead 19-11.
- Rockford made a good effort with loud kills coming from Jose Padron Garcia and Matthew Seger, but Millikin went on to take set two 25-16.
- The Regents got off to a rough start in the third set, dropping seven straight points for Millikin to lead 7-0.
- A kill from Matthew Seger put the Regents on the board 7-1.
- Millikin opened it up with a 9-3 scoring run to lead 16-4. Regents Randall Simental and Connor Harn tried to keep Rockford's fire alive with two impressive kills.
- After a pair of kills from Jose Padron Garcia, the Regents found themselves down 23-9.
- Rockford made an incredible comeback late in the third set with a 9-1 scoring run led by two kills from Randall Simental, two service aces by Matthew Seger and a kill from Jorge Pando for the Regents to be down 24-18.
- The Regents showed they still had fight left, but Millikin had the last say, winning the third set 25-18 and the match 3-0.
The Rockford University men's volleyball team returns to action on Friday, March 6 for its first NACC matchup. The match is set for 7 PM at St. Norbert College.
