ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (3-19, 1-16 NACC) lost 82-53 on Saturday to Benedictine University (19-2, 16-0 NACC). Rockford's defense struggled to contain Benedictine's explosive offense. Emily Cox led Rockford's offense with 19 points. Linzy Keller added 12 points for the Regents.
- Benedictine came out strong, scoring the first 15 points.
- Courtney Sutherland put Rockford on the board with a pair of free throws. Emily Cox added to the Regents scoring efforts with a 3-pointer bringing the score to 17-5.
- The Eagles finished the scoring in the first quarter up 31-5.
- Emily Cox knocked down a huge 3-pointer in the second quarter making the score 38-11 with 6:37 left in the second quarter.
- Rockford traded baskets with Benedictine going into the half being down 45-17.
- Benedictine started the third quarter with a 7-2 scoring run to increase the lead 60-21.
- The Eagles closed out the third quarter going on a 7-5 scoring run making it 76-30.
- The Regents entered the fourth quarter still battling as they went on a 4-2 scoring run capped off by Emily Cox draining a 3-point basket. Rockford still trailed 80-39.
- Rockford scored six baskets in a row without allowing Benedictine to score but unfortunately, the late surge was not enough as Benedictine went on to take it 82-53.
- Emily Cox led the Regents with 19 points. She recorded 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal. Cox also broke into the record books with most attempted 3-pointers in a season with 152 and is five 3-pointers away from breaking the all-time single-season made 3-pointers. She currently sits at 40 made 3-pointers on the season.
- Linzy Keller ended the night with a double-double, having 12 points and 11 rebounds. She also had 2 steals on the night.
- Sammi Russell tallied 10 points and 5 rebounds.
The RU women's basketball team returns to the court on Tuesday, February 11 at Concordia Chicago. Tip-off is set for 7 PM.
