ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's basketball team (10-11, 8-8 NACC) dropped Saturday's matchup 95-75 to Benedictine University (18-3, 14-2 NACC). The Regents struggled to gain momentum being down the entire game. Rockford showed tremendous effort and fight, competing with an aggressive Benedictine offense. The Regents shot an impressive 86.7% from the free-throw line compared to the Eagles 62.5%. Nathaniel Shead led the way for the Regents scoring 18 points. Brandon Emerick was in a close second with 16 points.
- The Regents started the game down 9-4.
- Benedictine increased its lead 13-4 before Jose Trinidad knocked down a 3-point jumper for the Regents to trail a close 13-7 with 14:56 left to play in the first half.
- Nathaniel Shead went on a tear for the Regents scoring five consecutive baskets. However, Rockford still trailed 26-19 with 7:59 left in the first half.
- The Eagles went on a 5-1 scoring run to increase its lead to 37-23 with 5:01 left in the first half.
- Brandon Emerick and Kivontay Shaw hit back-to-back 3-pointers to decrease the deficit 40-29.
- Rockford closed out the first half down 45-37 after going on a 4-2 scoring run.
- The Regents came out firing in the second half with Brandon Emerick nailing a 3-point bucket for the Regents to be down 48-40.
- Unfortunately, Rockford's momentum did not last as the Eagles went on a 6-0 scoring run to lead the Regents 57-42 with 16:16 left in the game.
- After exchanging a couple of baskets, Brandon Emerick hit a big 3-point basket to bring the score to 59-47.
- Benedictine sustained the lead 84-68 by trading baskets with Rockford. Brandon Emerick sank another 3-pointer to give life to the Regents who were down 84-71 with 6:13 left in the game.
- The Eagles closed out the game going on a 6-2 scoring run to win 95-75.
- Nathaniel Shead led the Regents with 18 points and 6 rebounds. He also finished with 1 assist.
- Brandon Emerick recorded 16 points, 4 steals, 3 assists, and 1 rebound.
- Kivontay Shaw had 11 points, 9 assists, and 3 rebounds.
The RU men's basketball team returns to the court on Wednesday, February 12 at Concordia Chicago. Tip-off is set for 7 PM.
