NAPLES, Fla. - The Rockford University softball team (5-2) showed an incredible amount of force in the 14-0 win over Alfred State College (4-5) in five innings. Rockford got off to an easy start scoring one run in the first and two runs in the third while holding Alfred State to no runs. The Regents went on a tear in the fourth inning scoring 11 runs highlighted by two enormous homers by Destiny Darmon and Emily Cox. Rockford's strength was too much for Alfred State, losing 14-0 in five innings.
- Rockford got off to a good start scoring the first run of the game in the top of the first inning from a sacrifice fly to center-field by Gretchen Schrubbe to score Emily Cox.
- The Regents scored two more runs in the top of the third inning to go up 3-0 over Alfred State. Mikayla Seay advanced to third on a single to left-field and scored on an error by the catcher. Jessica Kearns hit a rocket up the middle to score Gretchen Schrubbe.
- It was still a close 3-0 game heading into the top of the fourth inning, but Rockford broke it open scoring 11 runs in the top of the fourth inning. Destiny Darmon crushed a leadoff homer to left field. Emily Cox got in on the action demolishing a ball over the left-center field fence for a two-run homer, bringing in Annaka Bartz. Jessica Kearns, Destiny Darmon, Paige Korsan and Gretchen Schrubbe all hit singles bringing home a total of six runs for the Regents. Annaka Bartz and Paige Korsan also scored on an error during the top of the third inning.
- Rylee Klema threw an incredible game, pitching a five-inning shutout with three hits, one strikeout and no walks.
- Rockford won 14-0 in five innings, holding Alfred State to no runs scored.
- Destiny Darmon finished 3-3 with a home run, a double, 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored.
- Emily Cox went 2-3 with a home run, a double, 3 runs scored and 2 RBI's.
- Jessica Kearns went 3-3 with 2 RBI's and 1 run scored.
- Mikayla Seay went 3-4 with a double, 2 stolen bases and 2 runs scored.
- Gretchen Schrubbe went 2-3 with 2 RBI's and 1 run scored.
- Paige Korsan went 2-4 with a stolen base, 2 RBI's and 1 run scored.
- Rylee Klema pitched a 5 inning shutout with 3 hits, 1 strikeout and no walks.
The RU softball team returns to the diamond for a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 25 at Mercyhealth Sportscore Two. First pitch is scheduled for 5 PM against University of Dubuque.
