AURORA, Ill. - The Regents men's soccer team (5-9-1, 3-6-1 NACC) lost a tough road match 4-1 on Wednesday evening to rival Aurora University (7-5-3, 5-3-2 NACC). Rockford grabbed an early 1-0 lead less than nine minutes into the match, but Aurora struck for a trio of goals over a 20-minute span midway through the first half, to take a 3-1 advantage into the break. The Spartans tacked on one more goal in the closing minutes, to seal the 4-1 win and eliminate the Regents from postseason contention. Aurora was in control for much of the day, outshooting Rockford 17-4, including an 8-3 edge in shots on goal.
- Rockford jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the ninth minute of the match.
- Abraham Gonzalez found the back of the net at the 8:28 mark, for his first goal of the season. Gonzalez was assisted on the play off a nice pass from Pedro Acosta.
- Unfortunately, the Spartans were able to tie the match at 1-1 off a Christian Correa goal in the 15th minute.
- Aurora then added goals in the 27th and 35th minutes by Connor Erickson and Anthony Marmolejo to take a commanding 3-1 lead.
- The Regents had a chance late in the period to cut the Spartan lead in half, but Mauricio Flores's shot was stopped by the Spartan keeper, and Rockford entered the half trailing 3-1.
- Unfortunately, Rockford managed just one total shot in the second half by Abraham Gonzalez, whose attempt sailed over the top of the goal.
- The Spartans added one final goal by Enrique Gonzalez in the 88th minute en route to the 4-1 win.

The RU men's soccer team will play its final road game of the season on Saturday, October 23 at Wisconsin Lutheran College. The match has a scheduled start time of 3:30 PM.
