Women's Volleyball Stopped at Edgewood

MADISON, Wis. - The Regents women's volleyball team (4-20, 1-10 NACC) fell in straight sets (25-14, 25-20, 25-14) on Friday night to the Edgewood College Eagles (16-8, 7-4 NACC). The Eagles were in control for the majority of the match and led the Regents in every team statistical category, including a 47-28 edge in kills. Despite the tough loss, Rockford got an outstanding performance from senior Nicole Eggers. Eggers led everyone with a match-high 12 kills and three blocks.

  • The Eagles then went on a 6-1 run to take the largest lead thus far for either team at 10-5.
  • With Edgewood still holding a five-point lead at 14-9, the Eagles scored the next four points to take a commanding 18-9 advantage late in the set.
  • Rockford was unable to get any closer than seven points the remainder of the way and dropped the first set 25-14.
  • The second set was extremely tight and went back and forth from start to finish.
  • Edgewood scored the first three points before Rockford responded with the next three points and tied the set at 3-3. Nicole Eggers and Jaszmin Minneyfield led the RU attack with one kill each over that span.
  • With the Eagles once again clinging to a three-point lead at 10-7, Rockford went on a 5-1 run to take its first lead of the match at 12-11. Della Crain, Melody Moreno and Alexxana Burton all smashed home a kill during the Regent surge.
  • The two schools continued to trade points over the next several minutes, as the hotly-contested second set came down to the wire with the score now tied at 20-20.
  • Unfortunately, Edgewood used a 5-0 run to win the second set and take a 2-0 lead.
  • The third set got off to a rocky start, with Edgewood leaping out to a 14-4 advantage.
