Rockford Drops Hard-Fought Match at MSOE

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Regents women's volleyball team (4-21, 1-11 NACC) fell 3-1 in a tough road loss to the MSOE Raiders (19-10, 8-4 NACC) on Saturday afternoon. The final score was not at all indicative of how well the Regents actually played. After coming up just short in the first set, 25-21, Rockford and MSOE needed extra points to decide a winner in the second set. The Regents were able to stave off a pair of Raider set points, but ultimately dropped the second set by a final score of 31-29. Rockford would then come from behind to win the third set 25-23, before falling 25-16 in the fourth, to end the match. Despite the loss, Rockford's Nicole Eggers again turned in a spectacular performance with 14 kills on just 23 attempts and a .478 hitting percentage.

Recap Recap
  • Rockford opened the match on an 8-3 run to take an early lead over the Raiders. Nicole Eggers and Melody Moreno each tallied a pair of kills to help the Regents jump out in front.
  • However, the Raiders were able to answer right back with a 7-1 run of their own and take their first lead of the match.
  • Rockford would eventually retake the lead at 17-14 after scoring three straight points. Nicole Eggers again led the way for the RU offense, this time with both a kill and a service ace.
  • Unfortunately, just like earlier in the set, the Raiders went on an 9-1 run to seize control of the set.
  • Rockford was able to make things interesting at 24-21, but MSOE scored the very next point to win the opening set 25-21.
  • The second set had a similar feel to it as the first, with the Regents jumping out to a quick 9-5 lead. Nicole Eggers and Della Crain led the charge with four kills and a kill and two service aces respectively.
  • The Raiders responded with an 8-3 run of their own, to take their first lead of the set at 13-12.
  • The back and forth nature of the set continued with the Regents scoring six of the next eight points to pull back in front 18-15. Nicole Eggers was again the catalyst for the Regents with two kills over that span.
  • Rockford was eventually able to secure a pair of set points at 24-22. However, the Raiders ran off the next two points to tie the set.
  • The Regents then had three more set points, but unfortunately, came up empty on all three occasions.
  • Meanwhile, the Raiders then had two set points of their own, but Rockford dispelled of both, as the set was once again tied at 29-29.
  • However, the Raiders scored the final two points to secure the 31-29 win and grabbed a 2-0 advantage.
  • The third set went back and forth with each team leading in the opening moments.
  • With Rockford holding a slim 10-8 advantage, the Raiders went on 9-1 run to seeming take control of the set at 17-11.

  • The Raiders were able to retake the lead late in the set at 23-22.
  • Fortunately, Rockford would score the final three points and win the third set 25-23. Melody Moreno jump-started the 3-0 RU run with a kill.
  • Unfortunately, Rockford quickly fell behind 6-0 to begin the fourth set.
  • With MSOE still holding an 8-3 lead, the Regents ran off eight straight points to take their first lead of the set at 11-8. Senior Della Crain led the charge with a trio of service aces over that span.
  • The Regents and Raiders then went back and forth trading points over the next several minutes, as Rockford was still able to maintain a two-point lead at 14-12.
