DE PERE, Wis. - The Rockford University football team (2-7, 1-6 NACC) fell 77-7 on Saturday afternoon to the St. Norbert College Green Knights (3-5, 2-4 NACC). Not a lot went right for Rockford in the game, but
Joey Owens toppled yet another record, this one at the conference level. Owens broke the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference single-season receiving yards record by catching 4 passes for 46 yards, to bring his season total up to 1,222 yards. The previous record was set back in 2013 by Garret Wenzelburger (CUW) with 1,193 yards. The game itself was controlled by the Green Knights from the onset. St. Nobert never trailed and held the Regents scoreless over the final 44 minutes of the game. Rockford was also held to a season-low 201 yards of total offense and turned the ball over a season-high six times.
- Rockford quickly fell behind 14-0 after St. Norbert scored touchdowns on two of its first three possessions.
- The Green Knights took advantage of a short field to score their first touchdown of the day. St. Norbert went 30 yards on six plays, capped off by a Ben Kohl 10-yard TD run to make it 7-0.
- Following a Regent punt, the Green Knights used 9 plays to cover 70 yards and extend their lead to 14-0.
- Fortunately, the RU offense found the end zone on its next drive and cut the St. Norbert lead in half.
- Rockford put together a 10-play drive that covered 52 yards and took just over four minutes off the clock. The Regents would convert on a pair of critical fourth downs along the way, before Jaelen Ray connected with Joey Owens on a 10-yard touchdown strike. Gerardo Zamudio added the point after to make it a 14-7 game.
- Unfortunately, the Green Knights scored on each of their next three possessions to take a 35-7 advantage into halftime.
- Things did not get much better in the second half, as Rockford fumbled the opening kickoff and St. Norbert found the end zone on the very next play to make it 42-7.
- The Green Knights added one more touchdown in the third and 28 points in the fourth en route to a 77-7 victory.
- Joey Owens caught 4 passes for 46 yards and a touchdown. Owens broke the NACC single-season receiving yards record with 1,222 yards so far this year.
- Jaelen Ray was 16-of-26 for 142 yards and a touchdown.
