ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (2-0) defeated Grinnell College (2-1) in its second home game of the 2021-22 season 67-50 on Wednesday night. It was a very strong defensive showing for the Regents, dominating the turnover battle 20-9 and holding their opponents without a three-point make until the fourth quarter. The Rockford bench stepped up big, outscoring the Grinnell bench 18-4, while
Anaya Davis was an essential starter with a double-double off 13 rebounds and 10 points for the Regents. Grinnell was unable to outscore Rockford in any of the four quarters, resulting in a 67-50 win, and securing a 2-0 start to the season for the Regents.
- It was a strong start for Rockford as Audrina Terhune stole the opening pass of the game and took it the length of the court for a layup to open the scoring 2-0.
- The next 3:30 of the game only saw a few shots on both ends of the floor that all came up short. With 6:30 left in the first quarter Natalie Posadas hit a layup to go up by two scores.
- Grinnell would win the rest of the quarter going on a 10-7 run. Audrina Terhune would get Rockford five of those seven points off a three pointer and a layup. At the end of the first quarter the score was 10-11.
- After Rockford started off the second scoring four points to Grinnell's two, the Pioneers took the lead on their own 12-5 run, making five out of their six shots. At the end of the run the score was 24-20 Grinnell.
- The last two minutes were a restoration of the Regents offense. Jocelyn Callahan nailed a 3-point shot to help in the run, and Natalie Posadas hit a 3-point shot at the halftime buzzer to complete the 10-1 run. Rockford took a lead into the half for the teams second straight game 30-25.
- The Regents came out of the half propelling the score to 35-28. Jocelyn Callahan followed this up with back-to-back 3-pointers on the next two possessions, extending the lead to eleven points.
- Following a Roshanda Stevens layup, Rockford took over the rest of the quarter going on an 11-4 run. The defense stepped up big, holding Grinnell to one of seven shooting and only allowing an additional two free throws to take a 16-point lead into the final quarter, the score at 52-36.
- The Rockford defense stepped up big in the first four minutes of the final quarter, Grinnell only managed a three-pointer in that span.
- With 5:37 remaining in the game, the Regents and Grinnell traded points back and forth, neither gaining an advantage.
- After an 11-9 Rockford-favored series of points, Grinnell made a three-pointer to conclude the scoring of the game, the Regents getting the win and moving to 2-0 on the season.
- Anaya Davis recorded a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Davis recorded an assist, 1 block, and 2 steals to help the Regents.
- Audrina Terhune led in scoring for the second straight game with 15, she also had 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
- Natalie Posadas tied for second highest in rebounds (6) and points (13). She also had an assist.
- Jocelyn Callahan scored all 9 of her points off 3-point shots, shooting 50 percent. She also had 4 rebounds.
- Kiara Stevens came off the bench to tie the second-highest point total with 13. Stevens shot a team-high 55.6% from the field and recorded 2 assists.
- Roshanda Stevens tied for second in rebounds with 6 and got a Regents season-high 4 steals in the game.

The RU women's basketball team hits the road for the first time this Saturday, they will travel to Appleton, Wis. for a game against Lawrence University at 3:00pm.
