ROCKFORD, Ill. - The RU men's basketball team (6-2, 1-1 NACC) struggled to keep up with Concordia Wisconsin (2-5, 1-1 NACC) in a high scoring game 98-80. Concordia Wisconsin got the win, but the statistics for both sides were very balanced. The highlights for Rockford were
DJ Bonds and his 26 points, and
Micah Swanson with a double-double, scoring 18 points and securing 12 rebounds. Concordia Wisconsin had three different players reach 20 points in the game to carry the team to victory, winning over Rockford 98-80.
- Rockford started out the game in the lead, DJ Bonds scoring five points early with the score at 9-8.
- Once CUW took the lead they didn't look back, going on a 15-5 run to build a large lead with a little over seven minutes left in the half.
- The last seven minutes were spent trading points between the two sides. Micah Swanson was the key contributor, putting up 9 of the 23 points scored by the Regents the rest of the half.
- The Falcons concluded the half on an 11-4 run, making all four shot attempts including three three's and a last second layup to carry some serious momentum into the break, leading the game 48-39.
- Coming out of the break, Jaden Bell got the scoring started right away with a layup. Then the teams began trading points once again, CUW doing a good job of hitting three-pointers to further the lead.
- With 13 minutes to play, Brandon Emerick hit a three-pointer to bring the game within ten points, but the CUW lead only grew from there.
- Concordia Wisconsin's next run put the Falcons in their biggest lead of the evening, a 23-13 run that put them ahead by 20 points with the score at 89-69. With 5:11 left on the clock, it looked to be all over for the Regents.
- Rockford and Concordia Wisconsin tallied eleven more points each to keep the game out of the Regent's reach. The game was never in doubt after the lead was built, Rockford dropping its first NACC game of the season 98-80.
- Micah Swanson was a crucial factor in the game with a double-double, 18 points and 12 rebounds, and shooting 80 percent from the field (8-10). He also led the team in blocks with 2 and recorded 2 assists.
- DJ Bonds recorded 26 points, a season high, and grabbed 6 rebounds. He was cornerstone of the Rockford offense shooting 60 percent from the field.
- Jaden Bell had a team-high 6 steals with 8 rebounds and 8 points
- Brandon Emerick had a team-high 4 assists and 4 steals to help the Regents.
The RU men's basketball team will look to bounce back on the road as the team heads up to De Pere, Wis. for a battle against St. Norbert on December 11th at 4:15 pm.
