MADISON, Wis. - The RU women's basketball team (5-3, 2-1 NACC) began its three-game road trip on Tuesday night, with an impressive 58-47 win over the Edgewood College Eagles (0-8, 0-3 NACC). Rockford used a combination of smothering defense and timely scoring to pick up its first win against the Eagles since 2017. The Regents held Edgewood to just 28.6% shooting from the floor, including 17.6% from three-point range. This also marks the fourth time in the last five games, including three straight, that Rockford has held its opponent to under 60 points. Offensively, Rockford opened the game on a 12-2 run and built its lead up to as many as 21 points, in a game it never trailed.
Anaya Davis was once again the star of the night, with 21 points, 13 rebounds, 7 steals, 3 assists and 2 blocks. Davis now has six double-doubles in eight games this season, including five straight.
- Rockford won the opening tip and was in control of the game from start to finish.
- The Regents scored 15 of the first 17 points to grab a commanding 13-point lead with 2:48 left in the first quarter. Rockford shot 6-of-11, including draining all three of its triples, to begin the game. Anaya Davis led the way with eight points and Jocelyn Callahan chipped in five points over that span.
- Edgewood did close the quarter with a 7-2 run and cut the Rockford led back down to eight, at 17-9.
- With Edgewood now trailing by just six points early on the second quarter, Rockford scored the next nine points to make it a 26-11 game. Four different Regents scored during the run, including three points each from Natalie Posadas and Evelyn Abundes.
- Rockford's lead hovered around 14 points for the remainder of the quarter, until the Regents scored the final five points and took a 37-18 lead into the half.
- The Regents continued to show their dominance in the third quarter, building their lead up to a game-high 21 points, off an Audrina Terhune bucket with 2:58 left in the period.
- However, the Eagles would not go away quietly. Edgewood used a 20-5 run over the next 9:20 to make it just a 48-42 Rockford lead with 3:38 remaining.
- Fortunately, Rockford's Anaya Davis scored the next five points, to push the lead back up to double-figures and essentially put the game away.
- The Eagles were able to briefly get back within nine, but it was not enough, as Rockford earned its second NACC road victory of the season.
- Anaya Davis continues to have her way with opposing defenses this season. Davis poured in a game-high 21 points, 13 rebounds, 7 steals, 3 assists and 2 blocks for her sixth double-double of the year. Davis now leads the NACC in scoring (17.4 ppg), is third in rebounding (11.4 rpg) and fourth in steals (2.6 spg).
- Audrina Terhune finished with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 1 steal. Terhune is fourth in the NACC in scoring (15.4 ppg) and second in assists (4.0 apg).
- Jocelyn Callahan added 9 points.
- Evelyn Abundes had 8 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal off the bench.
