ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (0-5, 0-5 NACC) dropped its first home NACC matchup of the season 67-55 to the Dominican University Stars (1-1, 1-1 NACC). The Regents showed a lot of promise in tonight's game. Rockford kept up with Dominican for most of the night, playing tough on both sides of the ball. The Regents were able to take the lead eight different times making it a game the Stars were not going to run away with. Naynay Clark led the Regents with 13 points with Da Sani Hannah right behind her chipping in 12 points.
- The Regents started off strong with Neve Yerk sinking a big three-pointer early to put Rockford on top 3-2.
- Both teams played hard and traded baskets with Rockford tieing Dominican three different times in the first quarter.
- Unfortunately, the Stars created some space taking a 16-12 lead at the end of the first quarter.
- Dominican increased its lead to 20-14 with 8:38 left in the second quarter.
- Rockford's Kiara Stevens was able to keep the Regents in contention with a three-point basket to trail 20-17 with 8:28 left to play in the second quarter.
- The Regents were able to regain the lead 26-24 at 5:21 remaining in the second quarter with a 9-2 scoring run. Da Sani Hannah led the charge for the Regents scoring four points, followed by a three-point bucket by Evelyn Abundes and a layup by Au'Drina Terhune.
- After the Stars took back the lead 28-26, the Regents powered through with a 6-1 scoring run to finish out the half up 32-29.
- Dominican dominated in the third quarter with an 18-7 scoring run to lead 47-39 over Rockford.
- Evelyn Abundes tried to stop the bleeding with her second triple of the night for the Regents to trail 49-42 with 9:20 left to play in the fourth quarter.
- The Stars kept playing tough going on a 16-6 scoring run to lead 65-48 with 3:12 left in the game.
- Rockford made a valiant effort at the end with a drained three-pointer by Jocelyn Callahan and a pair of free-throws by Lexy Perez and Lauren Shafer but, ran out of time falling 67-55 to Dominican.
The Regents return to the court on Saturday, February 20 at home. Tip-off is set for 5 PM.
