Offensive Woes Hamper Regents

AURORA, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (0-2, 0-2 NACC) fell 64-32 on the road Saturday to the unbeaten Aurora University Spartans (3-0, 3-0 NACC). Despite the loss, Rockford continued to play good defense for the second consecutive day against a very talented Aurora team. The Regents held the Spartans to just 29.9% shooting from the floor, including 30.0% from three-point range. Rockford also forced 16 Spartan turnovers in the game. However, Rockford struggled to find any rhythm offensively. The Regents shot just 21.3% and turned the ball over 28 times, leading to 17 Spartan points.

  • Rockford dug themselves into an early hole in the first quarter that they were never quite able to get out of. The Regents were outscored 22-4 over the opening 10 minutes of play.
  • However, the Regents did play much better in the second period. Rockford held Aurora to just 9 points on 10% shooting.
  • Unfortunately, Rockford was unable to make up any ground, as the Regents entered the half trailing 31-12.
  • The second half was more of the same, as the Spartans outscored the Regents 33-20 en route to a 64-32 win.

  • Kiara Stevens continued to shoot the ball well coming off the bench. Stevens finished with a team-high 11 points on 4-of-9 shooting, including going 3-of-7 from long range. She also added 2 rebounds and 1 steal to her totals.
  • Roshanda Stevens finished with 7 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist.
  • Neve Yerk and Naynay Clark tied for the team-high with 9 rebounds.

The RU women's basketball team hits the road again next Friday, February 12 to face the Concordia University Chicago Cougars. Tip-off is set for 7:00 PM.
