ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's volleyball team (1-7, 1-6 NACC) won its first home match in school history 3-1 Tuesday night against the Lakeland University Muskies (2-5, 2-5 NACC). The Regents broke numerous records en route to the 3-1 win (25-23, 21-25, 25-20, 25-21). Rockford as a team broke the school record for most digs in a match with 49 on the night. The Regents move into second place in school history with 44 kills and 39 assists in Tuesday night's match. Connor McNear now shares the number one spot with James Davenport for most kills in a match with 13 kills Tuesday night. James Davenport and Jett Stewart move to the top of the school leader board for most digs in a match with Stewart's 14 and Davenport's 12 digs.
- Rockford took an early 4-2 lead in the first set with the help of a kill coming from Nathan Vana. But, Lakeland regained the lead 7-4 over the Regents, scoring five straight points.
- Back-to-back kills from Connor McNear aided in a 6-1 run to take back the lead.
- The Regents increased its lead to 15-10 with five unanswered points.
- Rockford sustained the lead until Lakeland eventually tied it at 21-21.
- However, the Regents finished off the Muskies with five kills coming from Nathan Vana, Connor McNear and James Davenport to take set one, 25-23.
- In set two, the Muskies got out in front taking a 7-5 advantage.
- Rockford played tough, evening up the set three different times before taking an 11-10 lead.
- The lead changed three times as both teams went on 6-0 runs, but Lakeland gained the upper hand having two out of the three 6-0 runs. Unfortunately, Rockford could not come back from the deficit, dropping the second set 25-21.
- The Regents came out firing in the third set with kills from Connor McNear, Jett Stewart, Jeremy Weaver and Matthew Seger to take a 10-8 lead.
- Lakeland tied it at 10-10 and took a 15-14 lead, but both times Rockford came back with three straight kills to take the lead.
- The Muskies came within one point of the Regents and could not hold on as the Regents went on to win set three 25-20.
- Rockford dominated in the fourth set taking an early 10-5 lead, led by kills from James Davenport and Matthew Seger.
- Lakeland bounced back to come within a point of Rockford, but the Regents went on a 7-3 run with six of the seven points coming from kills to lead 20-15. Connor McNear, Matthew Seger and James Davenport all got in on the action to give Rockford the lead.
- Kills from Matthew Seger and Jett Stewart sealed the Muskies fate with the Regents going on to win the fourth set 25-21 and the match 3-1.
- Connor McNear recorded a season-high 13 kills and moves into a tie for first place for most kills in a match in school history. McNear also had 3 digs and an assist.
- Jett Stewart had another outstanding night with 30 assists and moves into first place with a school-record of 14 digs. Stewart also tallied 6 kills, 2 aces and a block.
- James Davenport takes over the number two spot in school history for most digs in a match with 12. Davenport also added 8 kills, 4 assists and a block.
- Matthew Seger had 7 kills, 6 digs, 3 aces and an assist.
- Jeremy Weaver recorded a season-high 6 kills, along with 2 aces, an assist and a dig.
The RU men's volleyball team returns to the court on Friday, March 19 at Marian University. First serve is set for 7 PM.
