RIVER FOREST, Ill. - The Rockford University men's soccer team (0-1, 0-1 NACC) fell 3-0 in its season opener on the road to the eleven-time NACC Champion Dominican University Stars (2-0, 1-0 NACC). Despite what the final score might indicate, it was significantly closer than a three-goal match. The Stars led just 1-0 for the majority of the afternoon. Dominican would not add its second goal until the 76th minute, which came off a penalty kick. The Stars then put the match out of reach just over two minutes later. Dominican used a long pass over the top of the Rockford defense, which was headed into the net by Giacomo Parrino to secure a 3-0 victory.
- Dominican struck first in the 15th minute when Vicente Castro found the lower left portion of the net to give the Stars an early 1-0 lead.
- The Regents had a chance to answer in the 22nd minute, but Joshua De Avila's shot was stopped by the Dominican goalkeeper to keep it a 1-0 game.
- Maverick Attwood would keep the Stars off the scoreboard for the remainder of the half, with a trio of saves, as the Regents entered the break still trailing 1-0.
- The majority of the second half was once again played in front of the Rockford goal.
- Rockford continued to turn away the Stars' attack until the 76th minute when Dominican converted on a penalty kick to take a 2-0 advantage.
- Dominican would then essentially put the match out a reach with another goal in the 78th minute. The Stars connected on a long pass over the top of the Regent defense, which was headed into the net to make it a 3-0 lead.
- Unfortunately, Rockford was never able to find its rhythm offensively and fell by a final score of 3-0.
- Maverick Attwood turned in a solid performance in goal for Rockford. Attwood kept the Dominican attack at bay for much of the match, while also recording 6 saves.
- Joshua De Avila finished with Rockford's lone shot and shot on goal.
