WAUKESHA, Wis. - The Rockford University baseball team (3-2) earned the win in extra innings Friday over the Carroll University Pioneers (4-3). Rockford was in control through the first three innings, scoring one run in each of the innings. However, Carroll was able to tie it at 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning to force the game into extra innings. The Regents came out victorious in the 11th inning, winning 4-3 over the Pioneers.
- Rockford got off to a great start in the top of the first inning. With one out, Jordin Lee singled and stole second base to get into scoring position. Christian Garcia gave the Regents a 1-0 lead in the first inning by hitting a single to score Jordin Lee.
- The Regents sat the Pioneers down three up, three down to end the first inning.
- Leading off the top of the second inning, Troy Tucci crushed a home run increasing the lead for Rockford.
- In the top of the third inning, Rockford's first two hitters recorded outs, but Jared Herzog came up and ripped a double to left field. Christian Garcia singled with two outs scoring Jared Herzog on the play.
- With Rockford up 3-0 it was the Pioneers turn to get the bats going. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Pioneers homered to get on the board, now down by two runs.
- In the bottom of the sixth inning, Carroll singled to score another run closing the gap between them and the Regents, 3-2.
- After a scoreless seventh and eighth innings, Rockford led 3-2 going into the bottom of the ninth.
- Carroll smacked a double in the bottom of the ninth to score a run and stay alive, sending the game into extra innings.
- With the score locked at 3-3, the Regents had the last say by scoring a run from an error in the top of the 11th inning to lead 4-3.
- The one run was all Rockford needed as the Pioneers failed to answer in the bottom of the 11th inning, allowing the Regents to claim victory, 4-3.
- Carson Balcer impressed on the mound for the Regents, throwing six innings, striking out eight while only giving up one walk and two runs.
- Christian Dahlstrom held it down for the Regents at the end receiving the win. Dahlstrom pitched 4.1 innings on one hit, one unearned run, a walk and seven strikeouts.
- Troy Tucci had an outstanding day going 2-5 with a home run, a double and an RBI.
- Iszak Mestas went 3-5 on the day.
- Jared Herzog went 2-6 with a double and a run scored.
- Hunter Fiorito also went 2-6 on the day.
- Christian Garcia went 3-6 with an RBI.
- Carson Balcer started on the mound for the Regents, pitching 6 innings, striking out 8, with a walk and 2 earned runs.
- Christian Dahlstrom pitched the last 4.1 innings for the Regents recording the win with 1 hit, 7 strikeouts, 1 walk and no earned runs.
The Rockford University baseball team returns to the field Sunday, March 21 to take on Marian University at Rivets Stadium. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for noon.
