ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's volleyball team (0-12, 0-10 NACC) closed out its season in its home finale against the Concordia University Chicago Cougars (6-5, 6-4 NACC) on Sunday afternoon. The Regents struggled in the first match falling 25-13, 25-18 and 25-15. Rockford played much better in the second match, but still dropped all three sets 25-22, 25-19 and 25-21.
Match 1: Concordia Chicago 3 Rockford 0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-15)
- Concordia Chicago jumped out to an early 13-4 lead in the first set.
- Rockford scored three straight points to make it 13-7 with kills from Nicole Eggers and Taylor Segan and a service ace from Casey Sheetz.
- However, the Regents could not mount a big enough comeback, dropping the first set 25-13.
- The Cougars took advantage early again in the second set with an 8-3 lead.
- The Regents were able to come within two points of the Cougars with a 3-0 run making it 11-9. Nicole Eggers added a kill to help out the Regents.
- Rockford was able to overtake Concordia Chicago with a 5-0 run to lead 14-13. Kills from Nicole Eggers and Della Crain were instrumental in the Regent's comeback.
- Unfortunately, the Regents weren't able to sustain the lead with the Cougars going on a 12-4 run to take set two, 25-18.
- The Regents played tough in set three, taking a 5-4 lead over the Cougars. Nicole Eggers and Della Crain added kills to help the Regents take the lead.
- The Cougars took control of the set with another 12-4 run to take a 17-8 lead.
- Rockford made a valiant comeback with a 6-0 run to trail 17-14, led by three service aces from Della Crain.
- Concordia Chicago closed out the set with an 8-1 run to take set three 25-15 and the match 3-0.
Match 2: Concordia Chicago 3 Rockford 0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-21)
- The Cougars stayed sharp taking an early 13-2 lead in the first set.
- However, the Regents played much better answering with a 12-2 run to trail the Cougars 15-14. Nicole Eggers and Taylor Segan recorded kills, while Jennifer Quintas and Della Crain recorded service aces.
- Both teams traded points back-and-forth until Concordia Chicago created some breathing room with a 4-0 run taking a 23-18 lead and eventually winning the first set 25-22.
- The Cougars took a 7-3 lead in the second set.
- Concordia Chicago increased its lead to 23-10 with a 12-2 run as Rockford struggled to find its footing.
- The Regents showed some fight at the end of the set with a 9-1 run led by kills from Nicole Eggers and Jacey Wilson, but it was too late as the Cougars took the second set 25-19.
- The Cougars started the third set the same as the previous sets with a 7-4 lead.
- The Regents fought hard and tied the Cougars three different times at 8-8, 9-9 and 10-10 with kills from Jacey Wilson and Nicole Eggers.
- Concordia took a 14-10 advantage by scoring four straight points.
- Rockford added a 7-1 run to take a 17-15 lead with kills coming from Della Crain, Alyssa Ashford and Jacey Wilson.
- However, the Cougars regained the lead and went on to take set three 25-21, and the match 3-0.
Match 1:
- Della Crain led the Regents with 7 kills, 4 service aces, 2 digs and a block.
- Nicole Eggers recorded 5 kills, 2 blocks, a service ace and a dig.
- Taylor Segan added 5 kills, a block and a dig.
Match 2:
