AURORA, Ill. - The Rockford University men's soccer team (0-5-2, 0-4-2 NACC) dropped another tight match, 1-0, on the road Wednesday evening to the Aurora University Spartans (4-1-0, 4-1-0 NACC). The Regents were again on the defensive for most of the evening, as Aurora outshot Rockford 25-7, including a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal. Rockford did have a handful of good looks, but ultimately came up empty and was shutout for the sixth time this season.
- Rockford's Baruani Kamangila had the first shot on goal of the day in the seventh minute of the first half. However, Aurora keeper Ivan Burciaga was there to make the save and keep the match scoreless.
- The Spartans then took the next nine shot attempts, with the ninth one coming off the foot of Justin Rutherford in the 28th minute. Unfortunately, his shot found the back of the net and gave Aurora a 1-0 lead.
- Rockford was unable to muster another shot in the first half and entered the intermission trailing 1-0.
- The Regents were much more aggressive offensively in the second half of the match. Rockford took six shots in the second half, four of which came on goal.
- However, Rockford's more aggressive play on the offensive end of the field allowed the Spartans to get off eight shots on goal in the second half.
- Regent keeper Maverick Attwood was up to the challenge though, saving all eight of the Spartans' on target shot attempts.
- Unfortunately, the RU offense could not convert any of its shots into a goal, and Rockford fell by a 1-0 final.
The men's soccer team will conclude its regular season schedule on Sunday, April 18 at Concordia University Chicago. The match has a scheduled start time of noon. Rockford needs to tie or win the match in order to secure a spot in the NACC South Division Tournament.
